How to write a Suno prompt that works


Suno uses two separate boxes, and most bad results come from mixing them up. The Style box describes the sound: genre, mood, instruments, tempo and production. The Lyrics box holds your words and the structure tags. Style words in the Lyrics box get sung, and lyrics in the Style box get ignored.

Why it matters




Front-load the Style box
Suno gives the most weight to the first few descriptors, so put genre and mood first.




Keep it short and comma separated
Long sentences dilute the style. Seven or eight descriptors is plenty.




Use the Exclude Styles box
It is the cleanest way to remove things you do not want, like autotune.




Mark sections with square-bracket tags
[Verse], [Chorus] and [Bridge] tell Suno how to build the song.




Use Instrumental mode for no vocals
It is a toggle, not a lyric instruction. Writing "no vocals" in the lyrics often fails.






Writing lyrics Suno can sing

Short, common words. Long or technical words get garbled.

Match syllable counts between lines that should rhyme or repeat.

Repeat the hook. A repeated chorus line is what makes a track memorable.

Read it aloud first. If you stumble, Suno will too.

Re-roll before rewriting. A bad vocal take is usually the roll, not the prompt.
