Suno Prompts: 20 Copy-Paste Style Prompts and Lyric Tags for Suno v6
Share
Most Suno prompts are a list of genres. That is why most Suno songs sound the same.
"Upbeat pop song, catchy" gives the model almost nothing to decide with, so it falls back on its most average idea of pop. The prompts that produce usable tracks read more like a producer's brief: era, tempo, instruments, voice and mix. Below is the structure that works in Suno v6, 20 copy-paste style prompts by use case, and the lyric tags that control song structure.
How a Suno prompt is built
In Custom mode, Suno splits your prompt into three fields. Each does a different job, and mixing them up is the most common mistake.
- Style of Music: the sound. Genre, era, mood, tempo, instruments, vocal type and production. This is where most of the quality comes from.
-
Lyrics: the words and the structure, using section tags like
[Verse]and[Chorus]. For a track with no vocals, switch on Instrumental mode instead. Writing "no vocals" in the lyrics often fails. - Exclude Styles: what must not appear. Use it for elements Suno keeps adding, such as autotune, heavy drums or a female vocal when you want a male one.
The style prompt formula
Write the Style box in this order, separated by commas:
[genre + subgenre], [era or reference sound], [mood], [tempo or BPM], [2–3 lead instruments], [vocal type], [production and mix]
Weak: upbeat pop song, catchy, good vibes
Strong: synth-pop, 1980s inspired, euphoric and nostalgic, 118 BPM, analog synth bass, gated reverb drums, bright arpeggios, airy female vocal, wide polished mix
The strong version makes every decision for the model. Two rules make the biggest difference:
- Name instruments, not adjectives. "Warm Rhodes piano and brushed drums" beats "chill and smooth".
- Describe the sound, not the artist. Suno blocks prompts that name real artists. Describe what makes their sound recognizable instead: the era, the instruments, the vocal style.
What changed in Suno v6
Suno v6 launched in September 2026 and replaced every earlier model. It comes in three versions: v6 (the flagship, on paid plans), v6-wild (for experimental ideas, also paid) and v6-mini (the free-plan model). For prompting, three things matter:
- It understands more musician vocabulary. Specific instrument names, structure terms and production language now land more reliably, so the formula above pays off more than before.
- You can start from a feeling. A prompt like "the drive home after a long shift, tired but relieved" works as a starting point. Add instruments and tempo once you hear the first version.
- You can edit in plain language. Instead of regenerating the whole song, ask for one change, such as rewriting the second verse or making the chorus bigger.
If you want something unusual, try v6-wild before turning the Weirdness slider up on v6. It is built for that job.

Lyric tags that control structure
In the Lyrics field, section tags in square brackets tell Suno where each part of the song starts. A simple, reliable structure:
[Intro]
[Verse 1]
your lines here
[Pre-Chorus]
your lines here
[Chorus]
your hook here
[Verse 2]
your lines here
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
your lines here
[Final Chorus]
[Outro]
Tips that improve results:
-
Add direction inside the tag.
[Chorus: big, layered harmonies]or[Bridge: stripped back, piano only]steers that section's arrangement. -
Use instrumental tags for breaks.
[Instrumental Break]or[Guitar Solo]creates space without lyrics. - Keep lines short and even. Lines of similar length are much easier for Suno to sing on the beat.
- Repeat the chorus word for word. A consistent hook is what makes a song stick.
-
End with
[End]if Suno keeps trailing off or adding extra sections.
Using Exclude Styles well
The Exclude Styles field removes elements that keep sneaking into your tracks. Useful examples:
-
vocals, singing, hummingfor clean background music -
autotune, heavy reverbfor a natural vocal -
drums, percussionfor ambient and sleep tracks -
female vocalormale vocalto lock the voice
Keep it short. Two to four exclusions work better than a long list, which can confuse the model.
Can you use Suno songs commercially?
It depends on your plan when you create the song. Suno's terms have generally reserved commercial use, such as monetized YouTube videos, ads or client work, for songs made on a paid plan, while free-plan songs are for personal use. Check Suno's current terms before you publish, because they can change.
