AI clipart is easy to make and hard to make well. One piece looks great. The next comes out in a different style, the background is not really transparent, and the edges turn into a grey halo the moment someone drops it onto a colored page.

Which AI tool to use for clipart
- Ideogram: the most reliable for clean, flat clipart and any piece with words in it. Use Design style and turn Magic Prompt off so it follows your prompt instead of rewriting it.
- ChatGPT (GPT Image 2): great for quick iteration. You can ask for changes in plain language, such as "same style, now a fox instead of a bear", which helps keep a set consistent.
- Midjourney: the best choice for painterly styles like watercolor and gouache. It does not export transparent backgrounds, so generate on plain white and remove the background afterwards.
- Nano Banana Pro: strong at photo-real and textured objects, such as food, flowers and vintage ephemera.
Whichever tool you use, generate on a plain white background unless the tool offers a true transparent export. A clean white background is far easier to remove than a busy one.
The clipart prompt formula
Good clipart prompts lock the style first and change only the subject. Use this order:

Weak: cute fox clipart

Keep everything after the subject identical for every piece in the set. That repeated "style string" is what makes twelve images look like one product.

AI sticker prompts
Stickers need two things clipart does not: a solid border for the cut line, and shapes simple enough to read at small size.

A light grey background on sticker sheets makes the white borders visible, so you can check every cut line before you sell.
Keep the whole pack consistent
- Reuse the style string word for word for every piece.
- Use a style reference where the tool supports one, such as a reference image in Midjourney or Ideogram, built from your best first piece.
- Generate in one session where possible. In ChatGPT, keep the same chat and ask for the next subject "in exactly the same style as before".
- Cull hard. Generate about 30 percent more pieces than you need and drop anything that drifts.
File checks before you sell
- Transparent PNG. Remove the background and export as PNG with transparency.
- Check on dark. Place every piece on a black background. Any white or grey halo around the edges will show up immediately.
- Resolution. Upscale so the longest side is around 3000 px at 300 DPI. Buyers print clipart, and small files look soft.
- Clear file names. Use names like fox-mushroom-01.png, not image (4).png.
- Original subjects only. Never generate trademarked characters, logos or brand names.
Selling AI clipart on Etsy
Etsy allows artwork made with AI tools when you disclose it, so a finished clipart pack is a sellable digital download. What Etsy does not allow is selling the prompts themselves. Sell the finished art, not the instructions.
- Sell sets, not singles. Packs of 12 to 40 themed elements are what buyers expect.
- Disclose AI use in the listing, following Etsy's current Creativity Standards.
- State the license clearly, such as personal use only or small commercial use, and check that your AI tool's terms allow commercial use.
- Show the pack in use in your listing images: on a card, a planner page or a mug, not just a grid of files.
